AED had the honor of being hand-selected as one of the interior designers to complete a room in the 2024’s Junior League of Detroit’s final Show House. This Grosse Pointe home features a dark and moody basement speakeasy that exudes vintage charm and sophistication.

Upon entry, you're greeted by a dramatic black archway leading into the space, which is accentuated by deep black walls and a black ceiling that creates an intimate, cocoon-like atmosphere. The flooring is a polished, earthy-toned terrazzo that adds a touch of elegance and reflects the ambient lighting beautifully. To the left, there's a built-in bar area with rich, dark wood cabinets and shelves, stocked with a selection of spirits and cocktail essentials.

The centerpiece is a striking geometric-patterned rug in black and white, anchoring the seating area. The seating arrangement includes a plush green velvet banquette adorned with vibrant, contrasting pillows in shades of red and gold. Across from the banquette, two mid-century modern chairs sit beneath a framed vintage poster, evoking a nostalgic feel. A large, round mirror with a gold frame hangs on the wall, enhancing the sense of space and reflecting the room’s warm, ambient lighting. An elegant light fixture with an old-world charm hangs from the ceiling, casting a soft glow over the room.

The space is completed with a small side table in brass finish and a few well-placed plants, adding a touch of greenery and life to the moody interior. The staircase, adorned with intricate patterned tiles, leads to the upper levels, seamlessly integrating the speakeasy with the rest of the home while maintaining its distinct, inviting allure.
